Guest speaker - Jerry Dunn - offers words of advice and encouragement. A special thanks to Jerry for the volunteering of his time this school year. Those students tutored by Jerry, gained a lot of knowledge and are the better for it. Thanks for your time and affection!

Fabio Montuori wins the Fred Tabaczuk Outstanding Graduate Award for 2003. He joins 5 other students who have also won this  much coveted prize.

The 400m run proved to be a true challenge for all. Time to catch one's breath was a definite must at the end of the race.

 

 

Mehul, Naushard and Mayooran are in a very close race as they run in the first qualifying run. Look at the intensity in their facial expressions.

 

 

Julian is running in for the long jump competition. Many of his fellow students cheer him on.

 

 

Stephanie is competing against her group as she prepares for her 1st attempt at the long jump.

 

 

Shot-put tests the ability to throw a heavy ball. Alex is ready for his attempt.

 

 

 

Joanne gathers her group for a photo. They had a tremendous time and fun was had by all.

 

 

As a final activity, teams challenged each other in a tug-of-war. This requires a total team effort.

 

 

This team celebrates, as they prove to be the stronger of the two.

 

 

 

Cristina, Angela, and Ann-Marie enjoy some time with their friends and mentors from LBP High School. Thanks to all of the LBP students!

 

 

The final reward of the competition comes true when Gold, Silver, & Bronze ribbons are handed out. Congratulations to all students!!

 

138 prizes were drawn at this year's Fundraiser Dinner Dance.

 

Mr. Tabet welcomes all of our 384 guests, which included 31 of our own students. 

 

It was a great evening of Food, Dancing, Singing, and all-round good &  fun time.

A visit to the farm was part of this year's sugaring-off visit in St. Esprit.

While students celebrated at school, Sebastien and Vince Lacroce went to the Mtl. Children's Hospital to deliver some joy.

On February 6th, students had the opportunity to show off their hobby collections. Mr. Tabet examines Naushard's model cars. Gino waits to display his interesting hockey and hotrod cards.

Julian, Joe and Ann Marie sit next to their hobby collections of: model cars, animal books, and Pop-star magazines.

 

Cristina remembers the Backstreet Boys with past year's calendars. Melanie enjoys collecting stamps. Jenny displays her homemade figurine collection.

 

Carlo, Ricky and Alex wait for visitors to see their collections of Eminem photos, baseball/football cards and video games. 

 

Riccardo and Alex both share the same interest with their collections of the Japanese Yu-gi-oh cards. In the back ground, Fabio displays his long time collection of key chains.

 

Angela is very serious about her hobby collection of seashells and Ricky Martin photos. Melissa collects pictures of TV and Hollywood stars.

 

Suganyan stands behind the start of his collection of a model airplane as well as a vintage coin. Rukshan displays his hockey cards.

 

Anthony show his first model car (Porsche). Hope this is the beginning of a great hobby collection?

 

Christine applies some make-up as she show off her collection of various make-up products.

 

We started off our Christmas activities with a sing-along. Rukshan helps to provide the music.

 

Giant Steps students and staff enjoy the Celebration of our community banquet.

Our community breaking of bread included LBP- VP's: Dorothy Ostrowicz and Evelyne Alfonsi. Also attending were the Adult Ed. staff of General Vanier.

 

At another table we were honored with the presence of LBP principal - Pat Moffa and VP - Serge Furlanetto.

Teachers, staff, and students mingle to enjoy time together before the Christmas break.

 

In Mid-October, under the direction of Ms. Diane Fazio,  students formed a group to enjoy weekly Saturday outings around Montreal.

 

The Fall season offers the opportunity to visit the wonderful colors in bloom at the Botanical Gardens.

 

Prior to entering the site of the Chinese Gardens, the Youth Group posed for a picture at the entrance.

 

Once inside the Chinese Garden, this beautiful site was the first thing they saw. 

On November 7th, 2002 students and staff  honoured some war veterans.

 

 

In a special ceremony, Mr. Bechard welcomes students and 7 special guest veterans.

 

The color party (l to r: Tom Stalgitis, George Mann, John Byers, and ) are led by Charles Trudeau to officially begins the ceremonies.

 

A wreath is set at the front of the room to honor all those who have died in wars.

 

During our period of silence, Patricia Crichton closes her eyes as she reflects on those days of battle and unrest.

 

Question period allows George Mann to explain the meaning of his war medals.

 

The ceremonies end with the marching off of the colors. The flag on the right is that of the Royal Canadian Legion.

 

Paul VI student and Cadet - Junior Hibbert pays his respects to these fine veterans as they march off with the flags.

 

Principal Waguih Tabet presents a special plaque of our 20 years of affiliations with this group of veterans, especially those from Branch 29.

If you can't Remember, Think

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD project comes to an end as students prepare their gift boxes for delivery.

 

 

This year for Halloween, the library shelves were transformed into a spooky cave, thanks to the great work of child care worker Joanne.

 

As you walked through the doors, you were greeted by skeletons and lots of spider webs. 

 

Each class group had the opportunity to visit this spooky cave by a guided tour. The tour started with a tarot card  reading by Miss Cheryl and LBP students guest starred as monsters and other scary creatures.

 

 

Before taking the tour of the haunted library, students had the oppotunity of having their futures read.

 

Miss Cheryl concentrates into the crystal ball. She calls upon Miss Joanne through mental telepathy to come give students a tour.

 

Just like magic, Joanne appears and greets her next victims.

 

The first stop: -> graveyard of past visitors to this haunted library. Do you recognize any familiar names on the tombstones?

 

In the afternoon, students enjoyed a dance as they wore their costumes.

 

One of these creatures is a teacher. Can you tell which one? 

 

The World Wrestling Federation Championship belt was available this year for all to see. 

 

Students Anthony, Angelo and Mauro had their dreams come true with the thrill of holding the ultimate WWF prize.  

October is the time of year where we stop to pray and thank God for all our blessings.

 

Mr. Tabet leads us in a time of reflection and appreciation.

2001-02

 

Adult Ed moved on to another school location. Fabio and Jacynthe present Ken, Josie and Chiara with a token trophy of our love and appreciation for having shared time and space together over the past years.

The evenings are cool as the students get ready to walk down to the dining hall for supper. 

 

On the first morning, our campers can be found on the bridge enjoying a little fishing experience. 

 

Naushard made the biggest catch. He is showing us his prize catch.

 

Not to be outdone, Jeremy (a rookie camper) also shows off a successful catch for the day.

 

Before breakfast, members of the Paul VI - Polar Bear Club gather to demonstrate their bravery of early morning swimming. 

 

The first one in the water to get completely wet is the bravest winner.

 

Sebastien proves to be this year's male champion polar bear.

 

Jacynthe is the 2002 female champion polar bear. She still looks cold!!

 

After breakfast on our first full day, Mr. Tabet leads us in the annual Teacher vs Students soccer-baseball game. 

 

Camp Kinkora counselors (Sarah, Karen, Vaughn, and Cookie) wait for students as they prepare for a scavenger hunt.

 

Tired from their late afternoon activities, campers take a break as they soak up the sunshine.

 

Miss Cheryl enjoys time with students Curran, Mayooran, and Naushard as they dance. This year's theme was Hawaiian.  

 

One last row across the lake before we leave this paradise camp site.

 

Time to pack up the bus and say good to Camp Kinkora for another year. We'll see you again in 2003.

CONGRATULATIONS!

 

The Graduates shared their ceremony with 12 students who successfully completed this year's Work Study Program. Many of the Work Study employers were present for the distribution of diplomas and certificates.

 

Mr. Pat Pingitore was the guest speaker. He encouraged all students and their parents to become involved in the Special Olympics Association.

 

Ms. Sylvia Lo Bianco -  School Commissioner of Ward 14 (Montreal North) also was present. Her message of encouragement to the graduates was to take their place in society.

... Tania, Fabio, Bruno, and Winston are congratulated on their achievements as Mr. Tabet (principal) leads the guests with a warm hand shake.

 

Refreshments were served to all. 

 

A custom-made dessert was also served to students and their families.

 

After 25 years of dedicated service, Ms. Valerie Pirollo was awarded a special plaque from the EMSB. Mr. Tabet proudly presented the gift to her.

Volunteer students from our sister school - Lester B. Pearson are honored for their time, love, and effort given to Paul VI students. A special thank you to the principal Ms. Pat Moffa.  

 

Our annual Andy Mansi Bowling Tournament was held on May 30th.

 

Students have the opportunity to bowl during the school year in smaller groups.

 

The Tournament is named after one of our Volunteer Retired Principals who lovingly gave of his time to work with our students. 

Alex and Dario lead the parade for the 2002 Mini Olympics on May 17th.

 

Mayooran gets a goal in the Hockey Shot event as team mates look on.

An invitation, "Calling all Moms for Breakfast with your Children", was sent out to all the mothers of the students at Paul VI. Under the supervision of cooking teacher Miss Patty Tudino, mom's had a choice from a menu of 6 breakfasts that was served to them by our Work Study students. A good time was had by all moms (food, drink, conversation, sharing and laughter) as they kicked off their special weekend .

Valerie Pirollo is applauded as she receives accolades for the tremendous amount of Time, Effort and Love given to making this another successful fundraising event.  

 

Great thanks go out to our D.J. - Angelo of Marino Productions for his donated time and musical talents. Our evening was filled with great entertainment.

The first attempt at mural decoration was in converting the assembly hall pillars into ancient Roman floral replicas. Melissa and Melinda are showing their work. 

 

Christmas time offered the opportunity to produce a Mural Pine Tree. Paper ornaments were made to decorate our Christmas Tree. 

 

Jacynthe and Santina are sitting under a very traditional looking Topiary tree sculpture.

 

The Mural Decoration troop (left to right - Jacynthe, Santina, Melissa, Melinda, and Jenny) are very proud of their accomplishments.  

 

As the school year comes into the month of May, the Mural Decoration team finishes up their last project. This beautiful display can be found on the conference room wall. Congratulations to all those students involved.

Carnival time this year came with very mild weather. Outdoor activities were cancelled. FUN was had with our indoor plan, which started us off with BINGO. Mr Bechard called out the numbers.

Mike Sutherland, of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team took time out of his busy schedule to help us start off our second day of Carnival Activities. Students asked Mike lots of questions in reference to his big move from the Montreal Alouettes' team to Winnipeg.

 

Mike is always a great guest. Here he is joining in our jello-eating contest. Notice the serious competitive look on his face!

 

Mr. Tabet presents Mike with a consolation prize. Mike promises to practice so that he may do better  next year.

Miss Cheryl enjoys a turn at swinging at the Piñata, too. She managed to make a hit and was treated to some heart-shaped chocolates.

Here is Mr. W. Tabet receiving (on behalf of all at Paul VI) a cowboy hat, a cheque for $250. and certificate of Honorary Calgarian Citizenship.
The Calgary Grey Cup Committee is also accompanied by their mascot "Charlie Horse". Students are well entertained by his antics.

Halloween 2001 saw many students dress up to celebrate the occasion.
