2001-02

 

Adult Ed moved on to another school location. Fabio and Jacynthe present Ken, Josie and Chiara with a token trophy of our love and appreciation for having shared time and space together over the past years.

The evenings are cool as the students get ready to walk down to the dining hall for supper. 

 

On the first morning, our campers can be found on the bridge enjoying a little fishing experience. 

 

Naushard made the biggest catch. He is showing us his prize catch.

 

Not to be outdone, Jeremy (a rookie camper) also shows off a successful catch for the day.

 

Before breakfast, members of the Paul VI - Polar Bear Club gather to demonstrate their bravery of early morning swimming. 

 

The first one in the water to get completely wet is the bravest winner.

 

Sebastien proves to be this year's male champion polar bear.

 

Jacynthe is the 2002 female champion polar bear. She still looks cold!!

 

After breakfast on our first full day, Mr. Tabet leads us in the annual Teacher vs Students soccer-baseball game. 

 

Camp Kinkora counselors (Sarah, Karen, Vaughn, and Cookie) wait for students as they prepare for a scavenger hunt.

 

Tired from their late afternoon activities, campers take a break as they soak up the sunshine.

 

Miss Cheryl enjoys time with students Curran, Mayooran, and Naushard as they dance. This year's theme was Hawaiian.  

 

One last row across the lake before we leave this paradise camp site.

 

Time to pack up the bus and say good-bye to Camp Kinkora for another year. We'll see you again in 2003.

On their last day of school, the staff and students of Giant Steps bid Paul VI staff and students a Happy Summer Vacation.

Our 3 Graduates this year are Giancarlo, Chris, and Kevin.

CONGRATULATIONS!

 

The Graduates shared their ceremony with 12 students who successfully completed this year's Work Study Program. Many of the Work Study employers were present for the distribution of diplomas and certificates.

 

Mr. Pat Pingitore was the guest speaker. He encouraged all students and their parents to become involved in the Special Olympics Association.

 

Ms. Sylvia Lo Bianco -  School Commissioner of Ward 14 (Montreal North) also was present. Her message of encouragement to the graduates was to take their place in society.

... Tania, Fabio, Bruno, and Winston are congratulated on their achievements as Mr. Tabet (principal) leads the guests with a warm hand shake.

 

Refreshments were served to all. 

 

A custom-made dessert was also served to students and their families.

 

After 25 years of dedicated service, Ms. Valerie Pirollo was awarded a special plaque from the EMSB. Mr. Tabet proudly presented the gift to her.

Volunteer students from our sister school - Lester B. Pearson are honored for their time, love, and effort given to Paul VI students. A special thank you to the principal Ms. Pat Moffa.  

 

Our annual Andy Mansi Bowling Tournament was held on May 30th.

 

Students have the opportunity to bowl during the school year in smaller groups.

 

The Tournament is named after one of our Volunteer Retired Principals who lovingly gave of his time to work with our students. 

Alex and Dario lead the parade for the 2002 Mini Olympics on May 17th.

 

Mayooran gets a goal in the Hockey Shot event as team mates look on.

Naushard makes a bulls-eye on his turn of the Accuracy Throw.

 

Giancarlo gives a great effort in the Shot Put event.

The entire staff enjoys a moment with the A&W Root Bear (this year's game mascot).

An invitation, "Calling all Moms for Breakfast with your Children", was sent out to all the mothers of the students at Paul VI. Under the supervision of cooking teacher Miss Patty Tudino, mom's had a choice from a menu of 6 breakfasts that was served to them by our Work Study students. A good time was had by all moms (food, drink, conversation, sharing and laughter) as they kicked off their special weekend .

Tony Seminara and Waguih Tabet give honour to  Renato Cardillo (community rep of the Paul VI Governing Board) for his instrumental work in raising funds and sponsors to help in the great success of this 13th Annual Fundraiser. 

 

Valerie Pirollo is applauded as she receives accolades for the tremendous amount of Time, Effort and Love given to making this another successful fundraising event.  

 

Great thanks go out to our D.J. - Angelo of Marino Productions for his donated time and musical talents. Our evening was filled with great entertainment.

The first attempt at mural decoration was in converting the assembly hall pillars into ancient Roman floral replicas. Melissa and Melinda are showing their work. 

 

Christmas time offered the opportunity to produce a Mural Pine Tree. Paper ornaments were made to decorate our Christmas Tree. 

 

Jacynthe and Santina are sitting under a very traditional looking Topiary tree sculpture.

 

The Mural Decoration troop (left to right - Jacynthe, Santina, Melissa, Melinda, and Jenny) are very proud of their accomplishments.  

 

As the school year comes into the month of May, the Mural Decoration team finishes up their last project. This beautiful display can be found on the conference room wall. Congratulations to all those students involved.

Carnival time this year came with very mild weather. Outdoor activities were cancelled. FUN was had with our indoor plan, which started us off with BINGO. Mr Bechard called out the numbers.

Mike Sutherland, of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team took time out of his busy schedule to help us start off our second day of Carnival Activities. Students asked Mike lots of questions in reference to his big move from the Montreal Alouettes' team to Winnipeg.

 

Mike is always a great guest. Here he is joining in our jello-eating contest. Notice the serious competitive look on his face!

 

Mr. Tabet presents Mike with a consolation prize. Mike promises to practice so that he may do better  next year.

It is often said: "LOVE IS BLIND". We live up to this saying by enjoying a game with a PIÑATA (with a stick in hand of course)

 

Miss Cheryl enjoys a turn at swinging at the Piñata, too. She managed to make a hit and was treated to some heart-shaped chocolates.

Here is Mr. W. Tabet receiving (on behalf of all at Paul VI) a cowboy hat, a cheque for $250. and certificate of Honorary Calgarian Citizenship.
The Calgary Grey Cup Committee is also accompanied by their mascot "Charlie Horse". Students are well entertained by his antics.

Halloween 2001 saw many students dress up to celebrate the occasion.
